Buy an unlocked cell phone. Most countries you visit sell local SIM cards in vending machines at the airport or local mini marts. Use this to cut down drastically on phone bills with surprising roaming charges. SIM cards usually cost around $10 and you can use the same phone in the States for everyday use.
