Make friends internationally, by any means necessary – social media, university connections, etc. It always helps to have a friend in a city that you’re traveling to so that you can find out about the best hotels, restaurants, shopping, and events. Naturally, this should go both ways; if you have a friend, former classmate or co-worker visiting your area, offer to take them out to lunch or show them around town.
