JSTD: Managing panhandlers
Traveling to developing countries can be joyous and tough at the same time. One of the biggest drawbacks is being accosted by beggars - often swarms of children - nearly everywhere you go. To avoid giving away all of your cash on-hand and looking like a typical "rich Westerner", either don't give away any money or reward the person/child if they perform a service, such as guiding you to some place nearby. Finally, never expose your cash and only give small amounts.
