Today’s Annoyance: Doom and gloom
Mantra of the Day: Several empires were started during the Depression.

Everywhere you turn, there are the sounds of doom and gloom. You can hardly listen to the news or hold a conversation without hearing the words “recession”, “depression”, “budget deficit” and “global economic downturn”. The glass isn’t just half-empty; it’s shattered and on the floor. It’s tough not to sing the same song when people all around you are losing their jobs, homes and businesses.

If you’re desperate to find motivation in these troubled times, keep in mind that some amazing businesses were started and succeeded during times like these. Hyatt, Procter & Gamble, Disney, GE, McDonald’s, FedEx, Apple, Microsoft, CNN, Sports Illustrated, Intuit, Whole Foods, Costco, and HP were all started during recessions and depressions of previous decades. You don’t have to look for doom and gloom; you’re surrounded by it. If you look for opportunity, you might be pleasantly surprised.
